A Brief History of the Peel Regional Police - The very first police officers in what would become Peel Region were actually in place in 1811, when the magistrates of the former Township of Toronto appointed two settlers to the position of constable.

The Original Five - When the Region of Peel was formed on January 1, 1974, the Region of Peel Police Department was founded by amalgamating the police forces of Mississauga, Brampton. Chinguacousy , Port Credit and Streetsville. Our heritage tells us who we are, where we have come from and what we have accomplished.

When it was built, Peel County's jail met provincial standards. But by the time it was condemned in the early 1980s, it was a decrepit and dingy place, infamous for overcrowding, with buckets serving as toilets in cells.

Sir Robert Peel - In 1829 he brought about the Metropolitan Police Act and with it the first disciplined police force for Greater London. They soon became known as Bobby's boys or "bobbies".

Where We Work - Have you ever wondered about how and when the land of Peel was acquired by the British Crown? The first purchase of land took place in 1805 with an agreement between the Crown and the Mississauga Ojibway, the native people who lived in this area.
