The Crime Prevention Academy is a fun and interactive way to learn all the basics you need to know to keep you, your family and property safe. The course is offered in one of three specially designed formats, developed by the experts at Peel Regional Police Crime Prevention Services.

The original version, known as the Crime Prevention Academy, is a six week program offered one night per week. It is the crime prevention equivalent of the St. John Ambulance course. Graduates of the Crime Prevention Academy have experienced an 80% reduction in their rate of crime. In addition, 86% indicate they feel much or somewhat safer.

The second academy is a four week program offered one night per week. It is designed to teach parents and guardians the basic information they need to know to keep kids safe and out of trouble.

The third academy, the Crossroads Youth Academy, is offered to Mississauga high school students through Safe City Mississauga as part of their award winning Youth Outreach Program.  A similar program, YES ( Youth Education & Safety), is offered to Brampton high schools through Brampton Safe City.  These programs, intended for high school students, are designed to raise awareness and offer safefty tips on issues that affect youth; personal safety, dating, racing and impaired driving, drugs & alcohol, peer pressure, bullying, street gangs, CPR, and internet safety.

Peel Police now also offers the Cyber Academy; a four week program offered one night a week.  It is designed to raise awareness primarily for parents and educators on the risks of uninformed and unsupervised use of the internet and other digital mediums.  Topics discussed include computer security, cyber-bullying, cyber fraud, child pornography, child luring, social networking, cyber dating and a host of other topics.  This academy is restricted to parents, educators and other professionals.

All four programs are offered FREE of charge to residents and/or people employed in the Region of Peel. Participants must be 16 years or older for the original and Parents’ version and 18 years for the Cyber Academy. A certificate is issued upon completion of the course.
