How to Apply
CIVILIAN CAREERS
Over one third of our police service is comprised of civilian staff. The contribution made by civilian members is vital to the Service's mandate of providing the citizens of Brampton and Mississauga with the highest quality of policing in the most efficient and effective manner. Civilian careers are attractive to those interested in working within a police environment, but who are not necessarily interested in becoming a police officer.
The police service offers a professional environment where career development and advancement opportunities are available. An internal job posting system provides civilian members with an opportunity to apply for a promotion or a career change.
RECRUITING THE BEST
The Peel Regional Police needs talented individuals who are eager to be part of our organization. Every job has been evaluated to determine the skills and competencies which are required to perform the job. An individual must demonstrate those skills before being hired.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
A variety of professional, supervisory, technical, administrative and clerical civilian opportunities exist within the various branches of our organization. The police service maintains a current position description for more than 200 unique civilian positions.

SELECTION PROCESS
If we are unable to find a suitable candidate for a vacancy through our internal job posting system, we will recruit externally. Our selection process involves each of the following steps:
- initiating an extensive search for the best qualified candidate through various outreach recruitment efforts within our community;
- screening applications to ensure the minimum requirements are met - (e.g. Grade 12);
- administering a variety of tests for job applicants, ranging from computer, written and practical tests (i.e. general English proficiency) to keyboarding (40 w.p.m. at 96% accuracy rate), and specially designed tests for other positions;
- holding an in-depth structured interview with a selection committee normally comprised of three people;
- conducting a background security check; and,
- offering employment to the successful candidate.
